What is a Rehab?

Rehab is treatment within a specialised rehabilitation centre that helps people in the first stages of their recovery to break the pattern of addictive behaviours and overcome withdrawal symptoms safely.  Treatment within a residential facility involves counselling and therapy in groups and on a one-to-one basis. Other activities may also be offered as part of a daily routine, such as sports, life classes and family therapy. Where necessary detox medication and medical support will be given to overcome withdrawal symptoms.

All forms of addiction can be catered for within an NHS free rehab. The psychological and medical care within a free rehab offers a safe and supportive environment for addictions to be treated.

Rehab is accessed on an inpatient basis, where you will go to a clinic for a period of time to start your recovery. Where this is not feasible treatment can be offered in an outpatient setting, such as home detox and community care. The benefit of residential rehab is that it provides a safe environment free from substance associations that act in temptation for the person. Residential rehab also offers a more intense treatment, providing ongoing support from qualified staff throughout the treatment programme.

When should someone seek Rehab?

Rehab can be accessed by anyone who suffers from an addiction. It may take a nudge in the right direction by a loved one to recognise help is needed. Triage Healthcare has a wealth of experience with such situations, and can help you to support your loved one in making the right decisions.

There are a number of warning signs that suggest someone would benefit from rehab. Their substance use may be affecting their relationships in a negative manner. They may be irritable, secretive and dishonest to those around them. Their substance use may begin to have a negative impact on their work. Financial problems may arise due to the excessive usage of substances. Lifestyle patterns and behaviour are affected and the person will begin to 'miss out' on things in order to satisfy their addiction. In severe and well established cases of drug and alcohol addiction the person may begin to take part in criminal activities to fund their addiction, this includes stealing from family members.

If you are concerned that you or a loved one may need residential drug treatment or free rehab then call us. Our advisors work on a daily basis with people affected by drug and alcohol addiction and we understand the difficulties and challenges facing those who are taking the first steps towards treatment, and can offer clear and experienced advice.

Where to Rehab

NHS and voluntary services can offer access to free rehab centers for support and treatment for addictions. Typically forms of outpatient treatment will be offered such as counselling, day programmes and support groups. NHS services can organise short detox periods in a specialist unit or detox centre if required. In some cases local NHS service may grant funding for free rehab centers and treatment within a NHS detox centre. Typically residential NHS rehabilitation will be offered to those with severe alcohol or drug addictions, or as a last resort to individuals who have accessed other forms of treatment with little or no success. Levels of funding vary from one local council to another, and funding for free rehab is usually limited. This can make NHS rehab or free rehab difficult to access, and long waiting lists are usually experienced. The assessment and procedure of funding being granted for free rehab by your local services can also be an arduous one. Some individuals may be required to undergo a period of outpatient support or counselling before being eligible for residential treatment.  For an assessment to access a treatment or detox centre NHS you will need to contact your local addictions services or GP for a referral.

If you are not eligible for free rehab or you feel the waiting lists are too long it is also possible to access residential treatment and a detox centre privately. This can be funded yourself, or in some cases will be covered my private medical insurance.

Finding free rehab centers can be difficult.  Private residential treatment can offer more immediate help than free rehab for someone suffering from an addiction. This is important especially when someone agrees to getting help for their problem, you want that help to be accessed before they change their mind.   Free rehab centers can sometimes be stricter whereas private options may be more flexible with treatment plans tailored to the individual, than free rehab. This is important as addiction is different for each person and there is no “one-size-fits-all solution”.

There are a number of clinics across the UK that specialise in drug and alcohol addiction rehab and treatment. Clinics vary in their facilities and approaches, and finding the right clinic will help the person to feel comfortable and settled during the treatment programme. It is also possible to access private residential rehab overseas. This option can be particularly appealing to those individuals who have already accessed help in with limited success, or those who want to be completely removed from their problematic surroundings. Overseas treatment can also represent better value for money in some cases.

In order to find out the treatment (including free rehab centers) that represent the best chance of success for all concerned, call one of our experienced advisors on 0845 370 0102. Our advice is all completely free and confidential.

How long could Rehab treatment take?

The length of rehab can vary depending on the severity of the dependence, the situation, and the substance being taken. Drug and alcohol rehab clinics usually offer programmes between 4 and 12 weeks long.

Typically a minimum period of 28 days is recommended. For the best outcome of success, private residential treatment or free rehab should be followed by a regular local to home aftercare to help the person to readjust to their surroundings.

Typically NHS rehab clinics are accessed for a 12 week programme. The National Treatment Outcome Research Study (NTORS) in 1996 that showed a significant relationship between the length of residential rehab treatment and outcomes of success.

How much does a private Rehab center cost?

The cost of private rehab programs can vary depending on the duration, clinic and amount of aftercare accessed.  Free rehab can be accessed although typically long waiting lists are involved to access such NHS rehab clinics.
