Three former City and Islington college students are planning to give up their high-flying careers to set up a complementary health clinic together.
They are from a variety of business backgrounds and first met three years ago while taking a part-time course in holistic therapy at the Centre for Lifelong Learning. Now they plan to run their clinic, Integrated Body Dynamics, from a former tile warehouse in Finsbury Park.
Robert Donkers, 44, has already quit his job as the chief executive of a city farm to get the clinic up and running. He has developed a client base which includes marathon runners, swimmers, boxers and dancers who go to him for treatment.
Joy Chamberlin, 59, plans to join him in February when the clinic opens after calling time on her career in the furniture upholstery business. And Jenny Pullini, a 37-year-old senior accountant intends to go full-time at the clinic as the business grows.
Robert first became interested in alternative therapies when he attended a sports massage clinic at City and Islington for treatment for a shoulder he had fractured while taking part in martial arts.
"Doctors told me that I would need an operation and even then it would never be 100 per cent better," he said. "But I attended this low price clinic at the College and a student sports masseur sorted me out completely, and I was charged just £10.
"That experience got me fascinated by alternative treatments, so I enrolled on the course at the College where I met the other three. After this we all enrolled on a sports massage course.
