What are BENZODIAZEPINES?

The benzodiazepines are a class of psychoactive drugs also considered to be minor tranquilizers with varying hypnotic, sedative, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant and amnesic properties, which are mediated by slowing down the central nervous system.

Are Benzodiazepines very dangerous?

Benzodiazepines virtually never lead to death when ingested by themselves. The several deaths that have occurred involved the newer, short-acting high potency benzodiazepines such as alprazolam and triazolam (Litovitz, 1987).
