Thames Clinic

The Thames Clinic comprises a small, six bed unit all in single, en-suite rooms.

Types of treatment services Thames Clinic offers

The Thames Clinic offers initial detoxification, which can be followed by a period of residential rehabilitation. Individuals can expect to undertake a medical assessment prior to the detox, and will have access to round the clock nursing support.

Therapeutic support will be available during the detox as well. Individuals will be able to take part in group therapy and one-to-one therapy sessions with counsellors. The Thames Clinic also aims to help individuals develop ways to cope with and manage everyday stress. Professionals will be on hand to help individuals rebuild relationships, and to provide strategies to aid continued recovery upon leaving the clinic.

The Thames Clinic provides catering by chefs who can meet individual dietary requirements. Each room also offers access to telephones and wifi.

How long could treatment for drug and alcohol addiction at the Thames Clinic take?

The Thames Clinic offers detox programmes that last a minimum of one week. However, whether a detox can take place in seven days is subjective and dependent upon individual circumstances. Thus, detox programmes at the Thames Clinic can take up to four weeks to complete.

As a generalisation when searching for a clinic the longer that a programme can be accessed for, the better. However, as a minimum, four weeks is recommended for an alcohol addiction and six weeks for a drug addiction.

This is supported by research from NTORS (Gossop et al., 1996) that demonstrates those individuals who remained in a rehabilitation centre for at least four weeks had four times better drug abstinence rates than those who had shorter durations or left treatment early.
